Marvel's Wolverine Ends With a Major Overhaul to Logan's Origin

Per IGN, Insomniac Games' Marvel's Wolverine serves up a brand new origin for Logan that diverges sharply from classic comics and movies.
The outlet reports the game radically alters Wolverine's past. His adamantium skeleton and claws are gifts from Apocalypse, who recruited Logan to be the Horseman of Death in the 19th century. This version of Logan has no ties to Weapon X or the figure Romulus.
Another big change centers on Logan's relationship with Jean Grey. In this universe, the pair are portrayed as immortal lovers. Logan lives forever, while Jean is constantly reincarnated through her connection to the Phoenix Force, destined to find him again in each new life.
The game also shifts the mentor role to Nathaniel Essex, who recruits Logan for a Team X strike force. IGN's breakdown notes that Essex, who comics fans know as Mister Sinister, aims to awaken dormant mutants using the Helix Device, the same artifact that transformed Logan.
The story ends by revealing Essex caused Logan's amnesia and is secretly harvesting mutant genes for himself. These plot twists set the stage for a direct sequel, Marvel's Wolverine 2.
