Metro 2033 and Last Light get next-gen updates ahead of Metro 2039 launch

Ahead of the next major entry, developer 4A Games is giving the first two Metro titles a fresh coat of paint. According to IGN, Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light are receiving next-gen updates this fall.

The updates, per the outlet, promise to bring long-needed bug fixes and stability improvements to the older games. Specifics differ by platform.

On PS5 and Xbox Series X, players can reportedly choose between a native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second or an upscaled 4K at 120 fps. The PS5 Pro will utilize PSSR for upscaling, while Xbox consoles will use traditional temporal upscaling.

The PC version is finally getting support for Nvidia's DLSS technology, alongside other unnamed quality-of-life improvements. The report notes the updates will not add demanding features like ray tracing.

The PC update launches on October 22, with console versions following on October 29. IGN reports that 4A Games will share full patch notes ahead of these dates.

This visual refresh comes as 4A Games prepares to launch Metro 2039 on February 4, 2027.
