Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman reunite for Western thriller 'Rode to Ruin'
Michael Keaton is set to direct and star in the new Western thriller 'Rode to Ruin,' alongside his 'Clean and Sober' co-star Morgan Freeman, according to Deadline.
Keaton will portray a retired marshal named Henry Tillman, while Freeman will play a wanted outlaw named Joseph Mulberry. Per the report, the story follows the marshal who has searched for four decades for his wife's killer. His cold case heats up, leading him to the aging outlaw and a dangerous buried truth.
This marks Keaton's return to the director's chair after 'Knox Goes Away' last year and the 2008 film 'The Merry Gentlemen.' The project is written by R. Dean McCreary.
In a statement obtained by JoBlo, Keaton said, "Once we talked, it became clear we were on the same page. Just as 'The Shawshank Redemption' isn't simply a prison movie, 'Rode to Ruin' isn't simply a Western." Producer Lori McCreary described the film as "a deeply human story about forgiveness, revenge, redemption and the choices people make when time is running out."
The film also marks Freeman's return to the Western genre, having previously starred in Clint Eastwood's 'Unforgiven.'
