Microsoft caps Xbox Cloud Gaming hours, will charge extra for more playtime

Xbox Game Pass is getting a new restriction that will cost players more money to get around. Per GameSpot, Microsoft is placing limits on how many hours subscribers can use the cloud streaming service each month, starting in November.

PC Gamer reports that the new hourly caps are tied to your subscription tier. Users will have to pay extra to unlock additional streaming time beyond their monthly allowance, though pricing for those extra hours hasn't been announced yet.

According to Xbox, the change is a cost-saving move. The company stated that providing cloud gaming becomes more expensive as people use it more, and that monthly limits are needed to sustain the service. Microsoft admitted that for some players, this will ultimately mean a higher price.

PC Gamer notes that Microsoft's financial filings recently showed Xbox revenue fell by $1.7 billion last year. The company says it will monitor user reactions and could make adjustments based on what it hears.
