Microsoft Shops Xbox Game Franchises Like Halo to Studios for $300 Million
Microsoft is taking another swing at turning its video game icons into screen hits. According to a report from Puck, the company is meeting with streamers and studios, including Netflix, Paramount, and Universal, to pitch a bundle of adaptations.
Per the report, the package contains more than a dozen gaming properties. Microsoft is reportedly seeking around $300 million for any deal.
The bundle features several major fantasy franchises. Titles reportedly on offer are The Elder Scrolls, Diablo, and Warcraft.
This follows a mixed track record. The Paramount+ Halo series, which starred Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief, was canceled after two seasons amid criticism for its handling of the character and lore.
However, Microsoft has seen wins. The Fallout series on Prime Video performed well, and the Minecraft movie was a box office success with a sequel planned.
MovieWeb notes that high-profile game adaptations remain in high demand across Hollywood, with projects based on Elden Ring, God of War, and The Legend of Zelda all in various stages of development.
