Mike P. Nelson to Direct 'Saw 11', James Wan Returns as Producer
The next gruesome chapter of the 'Saw' franchise has a director. Per MovieWeb, Mike P. Nelson is officially on board to helm 'Saw 11'.
Nelson, known for horror projects like 'The Wrong Turn' reboot and 'Silent Night, Deadly Night', takes over from a screenplay penned by Gregory Weidman and Geoff Tock. In a statement, Nelson called the opportunity "a dream come true," praising the script for blending the original's mystery with new, bloody ideas.
The project has faced a rocky path. Originally slated for 2024, it was delayed, then removed from Lionsgate's schedule entirely due to reported creative clashes between producers. Executive producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg remain involved.
A major shift comes with the return of James Wan, director of the first 'Saw'. Wan will serve as an executive producer, marking his first direct involvement with the series since 2007. This follows Blumhouse Productions' acquisition of the franchise, which granted Wan creative control.
Wan said finding a director who honored his original world was essential, calling Nelson's filmmaking voice "raw" and "inventive." A Lionsgate executive echoed the sentiment, stating Wan's passion to return speaks volumes and expressing confidence in Nelson's singular vision for the film.
The official 'Saw' social media account announced the news with a video simply asking, "did you miss me?"
