Minecraft's 'The Sift' new dimension coming in 2027, Switch 2 port and ice caves detailed
Mojang has announced a massive expansion for the main Minecraft game. Per GameSpot and Polygon, the first new dimension in over 15 years, called The Sift, will be added to both Bedrock and Java editions in 2027. The ethereal dimension was first shown as part of the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons II.
Kotaku reports the new dimension will feature its own biomes, mobs, and activities, joining the Overworld, Nether, and End. It's also set to include blue bunnies, though full details remain sparse. The Sift will debut within Minecraft Dungeons II before arriving in the core game.
Before The Sift arrives, a major game drop is scheduled for December 2026. According to GameSpot, this update will introduce ice caves as a rare underground biome. The caves will be rich in ore and ice, and feature a new hostile mob called the frozen zombie, which throws ice balls and can freeze players.
Mojang also revealed that Minecraft is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, as reported by Kotaku. The port will feature enhanced graphics similar to the Xbox and PlayStation 5 versions. Additional creative tools and sound effect packs for the Marketplace are slated for later this year.
The announcements were made during the Minecraft Live event, which also provided an extended look at Minecraft Dungeons II, set for release on September 29.
