Miyazaki Details How The Duskbloods Will Shield New Players From Vets
FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki is jumping into one of gaming's hottest debates, confirming to IGN that the studio's upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, will use ranked, skill-based matchmaking to protect beginners.
Miyazaki explained the system is designed to group highly skilled players together while keeping novices in their own pool. The goal is to prevent unbalanced pairings as the community's overall skill level increases, per the director's interview.
He noted that features meant to foster positive interactions between veterans and newcomers may not be ready for launch, and could arrive in a later update. Ideas under consideration include special in-match events that appear more often when a seasoned player is present, and an alliance system that lets players specifically request a high-ranked partner for guidance.
"We're definitely considering ways to build a relationship... that's positive and not always scary," Miyazaki said, according to IGN. He emphasized the team wants this dynamic to benefit both sides, making veterans feel helpful and newcomers feel welcomed.
Nothing is final yet, however. Eurogamer reports that FromSoftware is still gathering feedback from the ongoing network test and watching how experimental systems are received before locking in long-term matchmaking plans. The Duskbloods represents a notable shift for the studio, which is typically known for its single-player experiences.
