Modern Warfare 4 double XP tokens will only burn time in matches

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is fixing a long-standing annoyance with double XP tokens, per IGN. Starting with the game's launch, the timers on these tokens will only count down while players are actively in a match.

Previously, as GameSpot notes, a token's clock would start ticking the moment it was activated, even while players were in menus or searching for a game. This meant valuable bonus time was wasted where no XP could be earned.

Infinity Ward confirmed the change on social media, stating tokens will now count down in "game time" only. The studio also noted that players' existing token inventories will be usable in Modern Warfare 4.

This is the latest in a series of fan-requested changes. IGN reports that Infinity Ward recently confirmed a skin toggle, allowing players to turn off seeing other players' cosmetic outfits.

According to IGN's reporting, some in the community hope these adjustments lead to bigger changes, like alterations to skill-based matchmaking. The outlet suggests Activision is aiming to please fans ahead of a competitive fall launch window.
