Modern Warfare 4 Switch 2 version runs smoothly with major visual cuts

Call of Duty is back on a Nintendo console for the first time in over a decade, and the Switch 2 version of Modern Warfare 4 is reportedly not the disaster some might expect, per IGN. While it's a significant visual downgrade from the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions, the campaign runs at a consistent 30 frames per second in docked 4K mode, with multiplayer targeting 60fps.
IGN reports the textures are less detailed, with characters and surfaces looking smoothed over. However, gameplay remained smooth even during explosive sequences in the campaign. The port is handled by Activision studio Digital Legends.
According to Nintendo Life, the Switch 2 version includes two different upscaling options buried in its graphics settings. The full game launches on October 23, but pre-orders grant early access to the campaign.
Reviews of the campaign itself suggest a return to form. IGN calls it the best Modern Warfare since the 2019 reboot, a marked improvement over 2023's poorly received Modern Warfare 3 campaign. The story splits between Captain Price's fugitive missions and a squad of soldiers during a North Korean invasion of South Korea.
PC Gamer notes the campaign is around six hours and highlights missions focusing on the young South Korean marines as standout moments, praising a sandbox mission called "Stranded." Kotaku's summary of reviews suggests the campaign is surprisingly good.
