Mutiny Sequel Talks Begin, Statham Co-Star Says '100%'
MovieWeb reports that sequel plans are already brewing for Jason Statham's new action movie Mutiny. Annabelle Wallis, who co-stars in the film, exclusively revealed to the outlet that Mutiny 2 has been discussed behind the scenes.
Wallis stated that a follow-up is "100%" on the horizon, pointing to her character's lingering look in the final shot as a setup. She said she and Statham have pitched "crazy ideas" for where the next confined thriller could take place, suggesting settings like a plane or a spaceship.
However, Wallis admitted that any sequel depends entirely on the success of the first film. In Mutiny, Statham plays Cole Reed, a man framed for his billionaire boss's murder who seeks revenge aboard a cargo ship and uncovers an international conspiracy.
The film faces a mixed reception. Per MovieWeb, it holds a 50% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, but a much higher 85% audience score. The outlet's own critic Julian Roman called it a "straightforward action thriller with a legitimate body count."
A potential box office problem emerged when Amazon accidentally made Mutiny available on Prime Video two days before its theatrical release. This mistake is described as a possible "multimillion-dollar problem" for the film's earnings.
Directed by Jean-François Richet and written by J.P. Davis and Lindsay Michel, Mutiny is set for release on August 21, 2026. If it draws crowds despite the streaming slip-up, those "crazy ideas" for a sequel might just become reality.
