Na Hong-jin's 'Hope' Gets Early US Premium Screen Release

Na Hong-jin's 'Hope' Gets Early US Premium Screen Release

Neon is giving the buzzy Korean monster movie 'Hope' a special early release on premium screens. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will play at 175 large-format locations on September 7, two days before its wide release.

The event screenings, set for 6:30 p.m., will feature the film across six different high-end formats, including Dolby Cinema, 4DX, and ScreenX. The strategy mirrors Neon's successful rollout for 'The Monkey' last year.

The film, directed by Na Hong-jin, follows a police chief and his deputy, played by 'Squid Game' star Hoyeon, as they hunt a massive creature rampaging through a town near the Korean DMZ. THR's critic called it a "rip-roaring sci-fi creature feature" with "instant cult classic" potential.

'Hope' is Na's first feature in about a decade, reuniting him with 'The Wailing' cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo. The cast also includes Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander in supporting roles. The film has already earned $35 million in South Korea.
