NBA 2K25 delisted this month, servers shutting down in 2027

The digital clock is running out on NBA 2K25 in a double whammy of bad news for players. According to reports from IGN and Nintendo Life, the game will be pulled from all digital storefronts on October 30, 2026. Then, on January 1, 2027, the online servers will be shut down.

This server shutdown will render the game's most popular modes completely unplayable. Per the publisher's statement, the MyCareer and MyTeam modes will become unavailable because they rely on a connection to 2K's servers for player progression and virtual currency. Multiplayer and online leagues will also vanish.

Push Square notes that MyCareer is a single-player story mode, meaning players will lose access to that campaign despite it being a solo experience. Those who have already purchased the game will still be able to download and play the remaining offline modes, like Play Now, MyNBA, and The W, after the delisting.

The move is seen as particularly aggressive, as the game only launched in September 2024, giving it a lifespan of just over two years. Nintendo Life points out that for the Switch version, which lacks several offline modes, only the basic 'Play Now' option will remain once the servers go dark.

2K has a history of delisting older NBA titles and shutting down their servers, a practice that effectively forces the player base to move to the latest annual release. While common in sports gaming, the swift two-year turnaround for a full delisting and server kill has raised eyebrows across the gaming press.
