NBA 2K25 faces digital delisting and total server shutdown

NBA 2K25 is on its way off the digital shelf and will soon lose all online functionality, according to a report from VGC. Developer 2K Sports and publisher Take-Two Interactive have set the dates for the basketball sim's sunset.

Per VGC, the game will be removed from all digital storefronts on October 30, 2026. This comes roughly two years after its initial release in September 2024. Players who already own the game will still be able to download it, but their full access is ticking down.

The real end comes on December 31, 2026, when the game's online servers will be completely shut down. From January 1, 2027, multiplayer and all online game modes will be inaccessible, as confirmed by a statement from 2K.

This shutdown will render the popular MyTeam and MyCareer modes unplayable, as both rely on earning Virtual Currency (VC), which will cease to function. VGC notes this is particularly frustrating for MyCareer, a primarily single-player story mode, because player progression is tied to the VC system.

Once the servers go dark, only a handful of fully offline modes will remain, including Play Now, MyNBA, and The W. Any feature requiring a server connection, such as online leagues or community sharing, will be gone.
