Netflix adapts Roald Dahl's adult short stories with starry cast
Netflix is diving deeper into Roald Dahl's catalog with a new drama series based on the author's short stories for adults, per Variety. The project follows the streamer's acquisition of the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021.
The show's logline describes a young couple stranded in a faded seaside town, where they encounter "conmen, adulterers, murderous mothers and snake charmers" as they try to escape a grim fate.
The cast includes Nicola Coughlan, Naomi Scott, Dominic West, and Imelda Staunton. Also appearing are Josh Finan, Toby Jones, Carmen Ejogo, Christine Tremarco, Michael Socha, and Clarke Peters.
Danny Brocklehurst, known for writing Netflix's "Fool Me Once," is the series writer and an executive producer. Gabriel Silver and Suzanne Mackie of Orchid Pictures also executive produce, with Runyararo Mapfumo and Ben Gregor set to direct episodes.
Brocklehurst said in a statement that Dahl's short stories inspired him to become a writer. He called the chance to bring the characters to life in a modern setting "a dream come true."
