Netflix developing police helicopter thriller 'Helo' with 'Narcos' director Andrés Baiz
Netflix is diving into the world of airborne law enforcement with a new action film in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project, titled 'Helo', will be directed by Andrés Baiz, a veteran of the streamer's gritty crime shows like 'Narcos' and 'Griselda'.
The script comes from Patrick Aison, who worked on the recent live-action 'Predator' movies. The Hollywood Reporter says the concept was brought to Netflix by producers Edward Berger and Luke Rivett, who then brought Aison on board to write.
Plot details are under wraps, but sources describe the project to the outlet as 'End of Watch meets Top Gun'. The report notes the film aims to reinvent the police helicopter thriller, a subgenre not widely explored since the 1983 film 'Blue Thunder'.
Baiz is fresh off directing the upcoming Jamie Foxx sports drama 'Fight for 84' for Netflix, which execs reportedly believe will be a hit in 2027. The streamer is said to have moved quickly to secure him for this new feature.
