Netflix greenlights 'Manifest' spinoff 'Arrivals' with new mystery and cast
Netflix is officially expanding the "Manifest" universe. The streamer announced a series order for "Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery," a new sci-fi spinoff, according to Variety. The announcement was made on August 28 at 8:28 a.m., a deliberate nod to the original show's Flight 828.
The new series will follow a different mysterious flight. Per the official description, a plane with amnesiac passengers lands in Denver. A social worker and a Homeland Security agent must work with them to prevent a global disaster, learning they are key to the mystery themselves.
The project reunites key creatives from the original NBC-turned-Netflix drama. Jeff Rake, who created "Manifest," is back. He is joined by Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, who were producers on the mothership series. The trio will co-create, co-showrun, write, and executive produce, as reported by TVLine.
It's unclear if stars from the original series, like Melissa Roxburgh and Josh Dallas, will appear. Rake told Netflix's Tudum they've "tried to thread the needle" to reward both existing fans and newcomers, leaving the possibility open. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
Netflix's Head of Scripted Series for the US and Canada, Jinny Howe, said the team's return ensures creative continuity for the franchise. Rake stated that bringing a new mystery from this world is "beyond my wildest dreams."
