Netflix orders 'Top Boy' prequel with Barry Keoghan and a Jaq spinoff series
Netflix is expanding the world of "Top Boy" with two new series, per Variety. The streamer has ordered a five-episode prequel titled "Jonny Boy," starring Barry Keoghan, and a six-episode spinoff called "Jaq," featuring Jasmine Jobson reprising her role.
The prequel will follow Keoghan's character Jonny McGee, an Irish mob soldier introduced in the final season of the original drama. Ronan Bennett, who created "Top Boy," is set to pen the scripts and serve as an executive producer. Keoghan will also executive produce alongside starring in the series, with Ali Abbasi attached to direct.
"Jaq" will center on Jobson's character, though specific story details are currently secret. That project is being written by Ryan Calais Cameron. Both Jobson and Cameron will executive produce, with Bennett also returning as an executive producer.
Both new shows were announced during the Edinburgh TV Festival. According to the report, production on "Jaq" is scheduled to start in 2027.
