Netflix renews 'Legends' for Season 2, sets 2027 production start
Netflix has officially ordered a second season of its spy thriller "Legends," per the streamer's Tudum site. The renewal confirms a future for the drama after a first season that many viewers assumed was a one-off story.
According to a report from MovieWeb, the show had a quiet launch in May but quickly built a massive audience through word of mouth. It eventually hit number one on Netflix's global chart and racked up over ten million viewers.
The series currently boasts a near-perfect approval rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, placing it among the platform's top-rated releases this year. The first season was adapted from a real operative's memoir, leading many to wonder if there was more story to tell.
Season 2 will reportedly jump ahead in time to the late 1990s. The story will follow the original team as they are dragged back into undercover work after trying to live normal lives. Creator Neil Forsyth is returning to write the new season.
Forsyth said the chance to explore this later, more dangerous era was the main appeal of continuing. The real-life operation that inspired the show lasted for years, suggesting plenty of material remains.
Production is slated to begin in 2027, making a premiere before 2028 unlikely. Tom Burke, Steve Coogan, and Hayley Squires are expected to return.
