Netflix's 'East of Eden' starring Florence Pugh gets October premiere and new images
Florence Pugh is heading to Netflix this fall. The streamer has set an October 1 premiere date for its seven-part adaptation of John Steinbeck's "East of Eden," TVLine reports.
Pugh plays the novel's infamous anti-heroine Cathy Ames, a role that earned Jo Van Fleet an Oscar in the 1955 film. The series also stars Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist as brothers Adam and Charles Trask, with a supporting cast that includes Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, and Ciarán Hinds.
New images released by Netflix, showcased by JoBlo, offer a first look at Pugh in the role. The photos tease the multi-generational drama centered on the Trask family in California.
The adaptation is written by Zoe Kazan, whose grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the classic James Dean film. Kazan told Netflix she is "thrilled by the cast and crew we are assembling" and grateful for the streamer's support.
Netflix's Peter Friedlander praised Kazan's vision, calling it a thoughtful homage that introduces new audiences to the American classic. The series is one of two major literary adaptations coming to the platform, alongside a new "Pride and Prejudice" starring Emma Corrin.
