Netflix's GTA VI first look sends game pre-orders and app downloads soaring
A single preview on Netflix appears to have unlocked a new level of Grand Theft Auto VI hype. According to a report from JoBlo citing data from Sensor Tower, the streaming service saw its U.S. app downloads jump 24% on the day the footage debuted, with iOS downloads specifically surging 54%.
For Rockstar Games, the payoff was even more dramatic. Per the report, pre-orders for GTA VI shot up by 436% compared to the day before the preview. PlayStation pre-orders reportedly leapt 606%, while Xbox orders increased 127%.
The numbers grew even larger once the footage was widely accessible. By that Friday, total pre-orders were reportedly 572% higher than the 30-day average prior to the reveal.
The exclusive look, which also landed on YouTube, showcased the game's setting in the fictional state of Leonida, a satirical take on modern Florida. The story follows criminal partners Lucia and Jason through locales ranging from a revamped Vice City to the Everglades.
