New Batman Animated Trilogy Will Finish Before The Batman 2 Arrives
While fans face a long wait for Matt Reeves's live-action sequel, a whole other Batman film series is racing to the finish line. According to ScreenRant, the animated "Batman: Knightfall" trilogy is set to wrap up before 2028, which is when "The Batman Part II" is currently scheduled.
The first chapter of the trilogy, "Batman: Knightfall Part 1," just debuted on August 25, 2026. The remaining films are reportedly coming fast. Per ComicBook, Part 2 is expected before the end of 2026, with Part 3 slated to arrive before the end of 2027.
This schedule means the entire three-film series will be released in just over a year, making it one of the fastest Batman movie runs in history. It also means the entire trilogy will launch in the six-year gap between the 2022 "The Batman" and its 2028 sequel.
The outlet notes the different production styles explain the contrasting timelines. The animated "Knightfall" trilogy is said to closely adapt its comic book source material, which can simplify scripting. Meanwhile, the live-action scale and independent script development for "The Batman 2" naturally requires a longer production cycle.
So, while Robert Pattinson's next outing as the Dark Knight is still years away, Batman fans will have a new animated saga to hold them over, and it will be complete well before the next major theatrical chapter.
