New Marvel Zombies Halloween special will feature a Guardians of the Galaxy survivor

Marvel Studios is bringing a Guardian of the Galaxy into a zombie apocalypse. Per ScreenRant, the studio announced an animated Disney+ Halloween special titled 'Marvel Zombies: The Last Guardian' at New York Comic Con 2026.

The special is set for release in 2029 and will use the same font as the live-action Guardians movies. It is part of a series of three Halloween specials planned for the next few years.

ScreenRant notes this marks the first new Guardians project from Marvel without the direct creative involvement of James Gunn, who now leads rival DC Studios. It presents a test of whether the studio can capture the team's tone without its original architect.

While the identity of the 'Last Guardian' is being kept secret, the report speculates on which survivor could lead the story. Possibilities include the hardened warrior Nebula, the genetically engineered Rocket, or even the plant-based Groot, whose biology might make him unappetizing to zombies.
