A brand new Pokémon anime film is officially on the way. According to reports from Variety and Collider, "Pokémon: Wild Card" was revealed at the end of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships event in California.
The movie is scheduled for a global theatrical release in 2027. A short teaser shown at the event spotlighted a trainer who competes in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, per Variety. The character was seen wearing a yellow hoodie.
The teaser also featured the Ghost/Fairy-type Pokémon Mimikyu, a creature known for hiding under a rag to look like Pikachu. ScreenRant notes the film's announcement was also made on the official Pokémon social media account on August 30.
The production team has been assembled, with Katsuhiko Kitada set to direct, according to Variety. Character design will be handled by Akemi Hayashi, and the animation studio CloverWorks is on board to produce.
As reported by Nintendo Life, the project was presented by Pokémon President Tsunekazu Ishihara. It marks the first new theatrical Pokémon movie since 2020's "Secrets of the Jungle."
