New Prime Video Space Opera Could Dwarf The Expanse, Same Team Attached
The creative team behind 'The Expanse' is reuniting for a new Prime Video series, and MovieWeb argues it could be even more massive. The new show, 'The Captive's War,' is based on a newer sci-fi trilogy from James S.A. Corey, the pen name for authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck.
According to the outlet, the series will involve key 'Expanse' veterans including showrunner Naren Shankar and director Breck Eisner. The story is said to jump straight into a sprawling conflict, unlike its predecessor which started smaller. It focuses on the Carryx, an empire that enslaves other species, including humans, forcing them to prove their worth or be destroyed.
MovieWeb suggests this established, large-scale premise means the adaptation starts with its epic scope already defined. The writing team wouldn't need to gradually scale up the story's boundaries over multiple seasons.
The report notes that with three books planned, the source material provides a clear long-term structure for the show. 'The Captive's War' is also a Prime Video original from the start, which the outlet implies could mean more consistent support and budget compared to 'The Expanse,' which was famously canceled by Syfy before being revived.
No release date has been announced for the series.
