New Silent Hill Townfall Gameplay Shows Puzzles, Monsters, and a Gun Debate
Konami has dropped a hefty 19-minute look at Silent Hill: Townfall, giving the deepest preview yet of the first-person horror game. According to VGC, the footage is split into chapters, showing protagonist Simon exploring the foggy Scottish fishing village of St. Amelia. A key item called the CRTV device provides audio clues to guide the player, similar to the series' classic radios.
The video then follows Simon to a local nurse's house before his first run-in with a monster, where he hides and uses the CRTV to track the creature. The preview also includes a shift to the series' signature Otherworld, where Simon is seen using a pistol against enemies and exploring a tenement building. VGC's own preview called the game "authentically scary and authentically Scottish."
However, the inclusion of firearms sparked some critique. PC Gamer's coverage of the same footage argues that guns can undermine the tension Silent Hill is known for, offering an "easy way out" of combat. The outlet's writer expressed a preference for the melee-focused terror of recent entries like Silent Hill f, noting that guns create a different kind of fear more associated with series like Resident Evil.
Push Square reports the game is slated for release on September 24 for PS5 and PC. The outlet noted the extensive footage seems identical to b-roll material sent out for media previews last month.
