New Uncharted Game Reportedly In Active Development At Naughty Dog

A new Uncharted game is reportedly in the works at Naughty Dog, per outlets IGN, Kotaku, and Push Square. The report originates from the website MP1st, which claims the project is not a remake but a brand new entry in the adventure series.

According to MP1st, Shaun Escayag is leading the development. Escayag previously directed the standalone expansion Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. He returned to Naughty Dog in 2021 after a stint at Crystal Dynamics working on Marvel's Avengers, Kotaku notes.

The report states the legendary treasure hunter Nathan Drake will appear in the new game, but his specific role is unclear. Push Square, citing MP1st, says Drake will not be the lead character. Speculation points to his daughter, Cassie, potentially taking a prominent role, a theory all three outlets mention.

The project is said to be in the early concept phase, with Kotaku cautioning that details could still change. MP1st claims the game will be Naughty Dog's next major project following the release of its new sci-fi IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which the studio plans to fully reveal in 2027.

Reliable industry leaker NateTheHate also reportedly confirmed that Escayag is working on a new Uncharted title and not a Last of Us project, lending credence to the rumors. Escayag himself fueled speculation earlier this year by posting a photo of an old cannon in Trinidad on social media, which MP1st described as research for the game.

Fans should not expect a quick reveal, however. All outlets agree the game is likely several years away, with Kotaku suggesting a release could fall in the first half of the PlayStation 6's lifecycle.
