New Werwulf Trailer Drops as Eggers Launches a Creepy Fan Puzzle Game
Robert Eggers is back with another holiday horror gift. A new trailer has been released for his upcoming film Werwulf, set to howl into theaters on December 25, 2026.
As reported by Collider, the movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a 13th-century farmer who transforms into a beast. The cast also includes Willem Dafoe, Lily-Rose Depp, Ralph Ineson, and Kate Dickie, many of whom worked with Eggers on his previous hit, Nosferatu.
The trailer offers a glimpse of the period horror, but Focus Features is keeping plot details shrouded. Per Collider, the studio is running an alternate reality game alongside the marketing. Fans must solve a mystery over three full moons, hunting for hidden digital clues that only appear for 24-hour windows each month from September through November. Completing the game promises a mysterious prize.
According to TheWrap, Eggers grounded the fantastical tale in historical fact, including having all dialogue spoken in Middle English. The film was written by Eggers and his The Northman collaborator Sjón.
