No Man's Sky somehow comes to iPhone and iPad on October 28

Hello Games' massive space sim No Man's Sky is making an improbable leap to mobile devices. The studio announced the game is coming to iPhone and iPad on October 28, as reported by Eurogamer.

According to the developer, the iOS version will contain the entire game and all of its numerous major updates, including the recent Cosmos expansion. It will run on devices dating back to the iPhone 11 and third-generation iPad Air, though planetary settlements will be limited to iPhone 15 Pro and newer models. Per Kotaku, the port has been miraculously compressed to just 3.8GB.

Studio co-founder Sean Murray explained this mobile port was a "seemingly impossible technical challenge" that the team has been working on as a side project for nearly three years. He told Eurogamer the port's existence is partly thanks to performance and memory optimizations made for the studio's upcoming fantasy game, Light No Fire.

Kotaku notes the mobile version will be the full core game, not a lite edition. However, multiplayer will not be supported. The game will feature redesigned touch controls but will also support controllers and mouse and keyboard. Pre-orders for the iOS version are open now, with a free-to-try model planned, though a final purchase price has not been announced.

Murray told Polygon that the technical solutions found for this mobile port and for Light No Fire are now being carried over to all other platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
