Ocarina of Time Remake Overhauls Puzzles, Dialogue and World Design

The upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is far more than a visual upgrade, according to a detailed IGN preview. Series producer Eiji Aonuma called it a "faithful interpretation," but the outlet reports a host of changes that redefine the classic adventure for the Nintendo Switch 2.
IGN notes the game runs at a crisp 60 fps with a detailed art style, from rays of light in Kokiri Forest to intricate stitching on Link's tunic. Dialogue has been expanded, with new NPC interactions adding texture, like a Castle Town citizen commenting on Link's handmade outfit.
The core gameplay has been retooled for modern controls. One early puzzle to obtain the Kokiri Sword, which originally taught players to recenter the camera, now requires Link to jump to a central platform, repurposing the room as a tutorial for the new jump button. Per IGN, this philosophy of swapping obsolete lessons for relevant ones is present throughout.
Combat and exploration feel familiar to players of Breath of the Wild, with a dash, a jump, and gyro aiming. Enemy behaviors are altered: Skulltulas now expose their weak spot when struck, rather than randomly. The world is also more logically constructed, with floating platforms replaced by crumbling bridges built into the environment.
A separate IGN list highlights over a dozen specific changes. Link's wallet now holds 200 rupees from the start, up from 99. Hidden secrets are better hinted at, like cracked ground indicating a bombable spot. Castle Town is now fully explorable in third-person with no loading screens or fixed camera angles.
Other outlets confirm the positive impressions. VGC says the remake "fired a Hookshot into my heart again," while Eurogamer states it's "shaping up to be a brilliant remake." The game is scheduled for release on November 5.
