Omar Sy reveals creative control condition for Lupin return

Omar Sy secured a more powerful creative role for the latest season of Netflix's Lupin, according to Variety. The star, who plays gentleman thief Assane Diop, said his condition for returning was gaining a greater say in decisions, leading to his new position as co-showrunner.
Sy told the outlet he had felt frustrated during earlier seasons when his ideas didn't make it to screen. For Part 4, he co-runs the show with director Louis Leterrier and co-produces through their Carrousel Studios.
The new season finds Assane in prison four years after the last one ended, targeted by a copycat thief. Sy says they used a bigger budget to lean into superhero-like qualities and add futuristic tech, moving the story further from its original literary roots.
Looking ahead, Sy discussed another project, the film Black Dumas. He stars as Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, a formerly enslaved man who became a French general. Sy predicts the movie, slated for late 2027, will spark intense political debate in France around its release, which follows a major election.
The actor is also filming a prequel to Ocean's Eleven directed by Bradley Cooper, where he appears with Margot Robbie.
