Paramount+ Debuts First Trailer for Golden Axe Animated Series
The first trailer for the upcoming Golden Axe animated series has arrived, courtesy of Paramount+. Per JoBlo, the trailer offers a comedic and blood-soaked take on the classic Sega beat 'em up.
The show is co-created by Mike McMahan, known for Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Joe Chandler. It follows the trio of heroes from the 1989 arcade game: Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gilius Thunderhead, on a quest to kill the villain Death Adder. VGC reports the trailer features meta humor, with Tyris laying out their plan to face "progressively harder enemies" before a final battle.
The trailer also introduces a new character, Hampton Squib, a naive adventurer played by Danny Pudi, who complicates the group's mission. According to VGC, the voice cast includes Liam McIntyre as Ax Battler, Matthew Rhys as Gilius Thunderhead, and Lisa Gilroy as Tyris Flare.
Paramount+ confirmed the series will premiere exclusively on the streaming service on September 16, 2026. As GameSpot notes, the trailer is packed with action, Easter eggs, and classic sound effects from the games.
