Paramount inks deal with Wes Craven estate for new 'Nightmare on Elm Street'
Freddy Krueger is waking up for a new nightmare. Paramount has secured the U.S. rights to reboot the classic horror franchise 'A Nightmare on Elm Street,' according to exclusive reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.
The studio made a deal with the estate of the late director Wes Craven, which includes his widow Iya Labunka and son Jonathan Craven, to license the original property. This new film will be released under Paramount's freshly launched genre banner, Paramount Primal.
This marks a major move to revive the iconic slasher series for a modern audience. More details on the project are expected to surface as it moves into development.
