Path of Exile 2 Launches as Free-to-Play Game This December
Grinding Gear Games has locked in a full release date for Path of Exile 2. Per GameSpot, the action RPG sequel will exit early access and hit its 1.0 launch on December 11.
A new trailer shown at Gamescom gave a peek at the story and promised faster combat than the original title. The game will retain its famously complex character building with hundreds of skill gems and a vast endgame featuring over 100 maps and tough boss fights.
Crucially, the developer confirmed the title is ditching its price tag. As reported by Push Square, the game will become entirely free-to-play upon its full release. It had required purchase during its early access period, which began in late 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The studio is encouraging players to register their email via the game's website. Doing so will net them some exclusive bonus items before launch.
