Pokémon heads to Disney+ with new Aardman stop-motion series for 2027
Get ready for a whole new kind of Poké-ball. Disney and The Pokémon Company have inked a major global deal, and it's bringing the pocket monsters exclusively to Disney+.
According to reports from TheWrap and Variety, the centerpiece is a brand-new stop-motion series called "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu." The show is being crafted by the legendary studio Aardman, famous for Wallace & Gromit. It's scheduled to hit Disney XD and stream on Disney+ in 2027.
The series will follow the two Pokémon on a quest across the Galar Region, the setting of the Sword and Shield games. VGC notes the show will feature other Pokémon from that area, including Impidimp and Appletun.
The deal also covers "Pokémon the Series: The Beginning," the latest season of the classic anime. That show started on Disney XD this month and is already available to stream on Disney+ in the United States and other territories.
Executives from both companies praised the partnership. Ayo Davis, who leads Disney's kids and family division, said the Aardman series offers a "fresh way to experience the characters." Pokémon's director of original animation, Phil Rynda, added that Aardman's work makes the world feel tangible and alive.
The announcement was made during the Pokémon XP fan event in San Francisco, where a new trailer for the stop-motion show was revealed.
