PS4/PS5 Black Ops ports called 'rip-off,' 'unplayable' due to hackers and high price

The newly released PS4 and PS5 ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are taking fire from players and critics alike. According to IGN, multiplayer lobbies are overrun with exploiters, making the experience "unplayable." Push Square similarly reports the ports are "riddled with hackers," a familiar problem from the original PS3 releases.

Critics are also blasting the price and lack of improvements. Eurogamer calls the releases "expensive and pointless," noting Activision is charging $40 for each game without including DLC. GameSpot says the ports "feel like the bare minimum," a sentiment echoed by Push Square, which labels both games as a "rip-off" and a "big rip-off" in separate reviews.

Despite the backlash, the ports are reportedly selling well. Sources told fansite Charlie Intel, per Push Square, that there are more players on these "bare bones" PS5 ports than on the latest Black Ops 7 across all consoles. Meanwhile, a rumor reported by Nintendo Life suggests Switch versions of the games are "not planned."
