Randy Quaid calls Anne Hathaway 'woke' and a 'horrible choice' for Days of Thunder sequel
Randy Quaid, a star of the original 1990 racing film, has launched a social media rant against the casting of Anne Hathaway in the upcoming sequel. According to Variety, Quaid took to X to voice his displeasure.
He argued that the sequel needs Nicole Kidman, who played the romantic lead opposite Tom Cruise in the first film, to return. "Don't be a pussy, [Tom Cruise]. You need the original girl," Quaid wrote, per Variety. He added that Hathaway "isn't sexy, because and if you haven't noticed, she's pregnant."
In a follow-up post, Quaid expanded on his criticism. "Anne Hathaway is a leftist, woke, horrible choice for 'DAYS OF THUNDER' NASCAR audience who are MAGA," he wrote, as reported by both Variety and TheWrap. He claimed the "sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole" for the idea to sell.
Quaid also suggested the production rush was a bad sign, comparing it to the hectic post-production of the original. "This is a weird thing, like they want it to come out and tank," he stated.
Paramount and representatives for Hathaway did not immediately respond to Variety's request for comment. The studio has slated the sequel, which will see Tom Cruise return, for a June 2028 theatrical release.
