Range Literary Publishing announces Donnie Darko book sequel from Richard Kelly
A new publishing house is trying to make it easier for Hollywood talent to become authors, and its first major project is a doozy. According to Variety, Range Literary Publishing, a boutique arm of Range Media Partners, announced it will release a novel sequel to the cult film "Donnie Darko" written by the movie's director, Richard Kelly.
The imprint, led by former CAA agent Jeff Speich, aims to bridge the gap between the book and screen industries. Speich told Variety that the company's model is unique because it functions as both a full publisher and is directly connected to a talent management and production firm.
He said the goal is to simplify the complex publishing process for artists and give Range an inside track on books with strong potential for film or TV adaptation. The company works across genres including fiction, memoir, and children's books.
Range Literary Publishing has already released several projects, including a graphic novel called "HYDE" from Jesse Negron, Johnny Depp, and Ridley Scott. It also recently launched a comic book division, which just published a Western comic series by musician Shaboozey.
The "Donnie Darko" sequel novel, titled "The Philosophy of Time Travel," is the company's highest-profile announcement to date, marking a bold entry into the market.
