Retired NFL Coach Mike Tomlin's 12-Year Minecraft City Project Goes Viral

The internet is losing its mind over retired Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's new YouTube video, which documents a 12-year passion project: building a single, sprawling city in Minecraft. Kotaku reports the video has racked up over 1.5 million views.

The project is described by the outlet as spectacularly ordinary, featuring meticulously planned boutique hotels with proper lighting and bathroom layouts, residential housing, and even a conveniently placed CVS. Tomlin narrates the tour in a deadpan monotone, fixating on details like bedroom concepts and his lighting-conscious designs.

Social media is eating it up. The NFL's official channel commented, "This is awesome, Coach!" while the Minecraft account chimed in with, "i'm honored to be here coach." One highly upvoted comment on the video called it a "top 5 video of all time on YouTube," and another likened it to "The modern dad’s Model Train Track."

Tomlin's family is also getting in on the fun. One of his sons, Mayce, joked on social media about his PlayStation mysteriously disappearing when his dad wanted to play. He also quipped about the fate of the Minecraft villagers who once lived on the city's land.

According to Kotaku, Tomlin recently appeared on 'Late Night With Seth Meyers' and described playing Minecraft as "therapeutic," saying he initially got into the game to spend more time with his sons when they were in middle school.

The video is just episode one. Tomlin teases at the end that the next installment will look at "something that's really cool," leaving fans of his bizarrely soothing urban planning simulator eagerly waiting.
