Ridley Scott calls Alien: Romulus just 'OK,' eyes his own sequel
Director Ridley Scott gave a tepid review of the latest franchise entry, Alien: Romulus. In an interview with French outlet AlloCiné, Scott said the 2024 film was merely “OK.” He also stated he believes the Alien series “needs some help,” per JoBlo.
Scott revealed he has already returned to the franchise, aiming to steer its future. He plans to pick up where his own prequel story left off. His focus is on continuing the saga of David, the android played by Michael Fassbender in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.
“I’ve already got a footprint for the next Alien,” Scott said. He described his new story as following Fassbender’s character, who now “thinks he’s Ozymandias.” Scott also expressed interest in themes of artificial intelligence running amok.
His comments suggest a desire to move past the recent film. Director Fede Álvarez, who helmed Romulus, was not set to return for a sequel. Studio president Steve Asbell has denied rumors that a follow-up project was cancelled.
