Ridley Scott calls himself an influencer, not a filmmaker
Ridley Scott has a new title for himself. In an interview with The Times of London, the director said he doesn’t see himself as a filmmaker, but as an “influencer,” per Variety.
Scott explained his reasoning, saying he feels he’s frequently been ahead of the curve with his projects. “I never want to repeat myself and all my films have been on the money,” he said. “If you’re ahead of the game, you’re an influencer.”
The director also revealed some items still on his career bucket list. He said he has never made a Western and wants to do a musical. He also mentioned a film about African elephants.
Scott’s next project is the film “The Dog Stars.” He praised his lead actor, calling him a major talent and saying they worked well together. Scott suggested he took on the film because he’s tired of Hollywood’s repetitive trends.
He specifically called out stories about murders in the woods, exceptional FBI agents, and superheroes. “Fuck me! There have to be other stories to tell,” Scott said.
The director is set to receive an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards in November.
