Ridley Scott plans third Alien prequel focused on android David
Ridley Scott has confirmed he wants to make a third film in his Alien prequel series, according to Variety and JoBlo. The director told the Los Angeles Times the project would continue the story of the synthetic being David, played by Michael Fassbender.
The movie would follow the android as he builds a new existence for himself in the wake of Alien: Covenant, per the reports. Scott described the character's journey as creating a "brave new world."
Scott discussed his ongoing fascination with artificial intelligence themes. He compared a rogue AI to an explosive device, saying once they malfunction, the consequences are severe. He noted that while he explores these ideas on screen, he has not yet used AI tools in his own filmmaking process.
The director has a packed slate, with an adaptation of Treasure Island starring Hugh Jackman set to start filming in November. He also mentioned a potential Bee Gees biopic and a World War I drama are among dozens of projects in development at his company.
JoBlo's report notes that this proposed prequel would be distinct from other Alien projects in the works, like a sequel to 2024's Alien: Romulus. Scott's film would specifically conclude the narrative arc begun in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.
