Ridley Scott's new post-apocalyptic film, The Dog Stars, has crashed at the box office. According to Deadline's numbers reported by ScreenRant, the movie is projected to earn just $8 million over its opening weekend domestically.
Per the outlet, that places the film's debut as the fifth-lowest opening for any of the 20 theatrical features Scott has directed since the year 2000. Only A Good Year, The Last Duel, All the Money in the World, and The Counselor opened to less.
JoBlo reports the film is considered a major flop, given its reported budget of over $70 million. The outlet notes the film received a poor audience grade, contributing to its weak performance. Meanwhile, fellow new release Coyote vs. Acme is faring better, with Deadline projecting a $12-14 million opening, per JoBlo.

The site reports Scott is already moving on, with a Treasure Island adaptation starring Hugh Jackman set to begin filming in November.
