Riot Ends Development on League of Legends Fighter 2XKO
Riot Games is pulling the plug on active development for its League of Legends fighting game, 2XKO. IGN reports the company will stop developing new content this December, less than a year after the game's full launch.
According to a blog post from Riot, the game failed to retain enough players to be sustainable. The studio stated that while many tried 2XKO, not enough stuck around long-term. Per PC Gamer, the team concluded that only die-hard tag fighter fans truly loved it, while most other fighting game players drifted away.
The servers will stay online for now, and offline play is unaffected. A final content update is scheduled for October, featuring two new champions, Lux and Samira. A last bug-fix patch will arrive in December.
Riot is issuing refunds for all in-game purchases made on or before August 20. The developer will also unlock all playable characters and bundle most cosmetic items into a single $39.99 package. Systems like ranked lobbies, battle passes, and seasonal events will be shut down.
Organized competition will also wind down. Per IGN, the official 2XKO tournament circuit will run its final events this year before concluding. The news has drawn disappointed reactions from the fighting game community, including a note of support from the organizers of the Evo tournament.
