Riot reverses course on paid cosmetics for League of Legends Classic after player revolt
Riot Games is already walking back plans to sell old-school cosmetics for its upcoming League of Legends Classic server.
The pivot comes after immediate and loud backlash from the community, which PC Gamer characterized as a response to the "elephant on the rift." The developer had initially revealed intentions to offer some skins for purchase, a move that clashed with the nostalgic, preservation-focused spirit of the project.
No new details on the monetization model were provided, but the company is clearly in damage-control mode following the outcry.
