Rockstar approached Netflix for GTA 6 exclusive, not the other way around
That 27-minute first look at Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay debuted as a Netflix exclusive, and per IGN, it was all Rockstar's idea. A PR rep told Kinda Funny Games the developer wanted to go to Netflix, countering assumptions the streamer paid for the privilege.
Fans questioned the six-hour exclusivity window, with one calling the move 'unbelievably scummy' on social media. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick framed it as Rockstar trying new marketing tactics, telling Bloomberg viewers would 'understand more' after watching.
Meanwhile, a deep dive by IGN into the footage revealed 99 details. New systems seem inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2, including a morality meter impacted by actions like petting a dog, and a combat focus ability that slows time.
Other spotted features include a six-star wanted level with detailed police intel icons, the ability to loot refrigerators for stat boosts, and NPCs who may actively resist during crimes. The extended look also confirmed the return of the rock band Love Fist, albeit just on a t-shirt.
As reported by VGC and PC Gamer, the showcase has sparked widespread discussion. The Netflix exclusive has since been uploaded to YouTube, and analysis continues on the game's more nuanced approach to criminal actions, making classic activities like car theft more challenging.
