Roseanne Barr's indie series 'Meemaw' is shopping for a streaming home

A new, independently produced television series co-created by Roseanne Barr is looking for a distributor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Allan Stephan says reps for the comedy 'Meemaw' are sending a trailer to interested platforms and are in active talks.

Stephan described the project as having 'a lot of nibbles right now,' though he did not specify which streamers might be involved. The eight-episode series has already been filmed.

The show is described as a modern fable following a Texas prepper family matriarch, played by Barr, who is trying to throw a lavish bat mitzvah for her granddaughter. The cast includes actors such as Randy Quaid, Drea de Matteo, and Omar Gooding, with cameos from comedians like Jon Lovitz.

Per the report, Barr independently financed the first season with help from her son. Stephan emphasized the series is meant to be non-political, focusing on a family's universal struggles rather than partisan divides.

Each episode runs 30 minutes, but the creators are calling it a fable rather than a sitcom, noting that animals are part of the storytelling. Whether a major platform picks it up remains to be seen.
