Rumor: Bungie or EA DICE Could Make Star Wars Battlefront 3

A new rumor from the pages of a revived gaming magazine suggests Disney is hunting for a studio to make Star Wars Battlefront 3. According to a report read by Jeff Grubb on Giant Bomb's Game Mess Mornings podcast, two studios are being considered for the project.

Per Polygon, the rumor originates from a new issue of the long-dormant Electronic Gaming Monthly, which includes a column from the legendary rumormonger 'Quarterman.' The report claims Disney recognizes the sustained popularity of EA's 2017 Battlefront 2 and is aggressively seeking a developer for a follow-up.

The two studios allegedly 'circling the project' are EA DICE, the developer of the previous two Battlefront games, and Bungie, the studio behind Halo, Destiny, and the upcoming Marathon. Grubb clarified that the rumor suggests conversations are happening, but the game is not yet in active development.

Push Square also reported on the rumor, noting that Bungie is currently busy with Marathon and Destiny 2. EA DICE is similarly occupied with Battlefield 6. The exclusive Star Wars game license held by EA expired in 2023, opening the door for other publishers.
