Ryan Coogler's X-Files reboot gets full series order at Hulu

Ryan Coogler's new take on The X-Files is officially moving forward. Hulu has given the reimagined series a full order, per multiple reports.
According to ScreenRant, the project was first revealed by original creator Chris Carter in 2023. Hulu ordered a pilot in early 2026, which filmed from May to June that year with Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel in the lead roles.
TheWrap reports the show stars Deadwyler and Patel as two very different but highly decorated FBI agents. They form an unlikely bond after being assigned to a long-shuttered division that handles cases involving unexplained phenomena.
Ryan Coogler wrote, directed, and executive produced the pilot. In a statement published by Variety, he said getting to write and direct it "has meant a great deal to me." He added that the goal was to honor the original series while finding their own way into that world.
Showrunner Jennifer Yale will executive produce alongside Coogler, his Proximity Media partners, and Chris Carter. The pilot was shot on 65mm film by cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, per JoBlo.
