Ryan Murphy says 'Glee' reboot script is done, original cast is 'enthusiastic'
Glee fans, it's time to dust off your show choir blazers. According to reports from TheWrap and Variety, series co-creator Ryan Murphy has finished a script for a potential reboot.
Murphy revealed the news to Entertainment Tonight, per both outlets. He said he, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, who wrote the first two seasons of the original, "just finished the script an hour ago." Murphy also noted he's been in touch with around ten original cast members.
He described the contacted actors as having "a lot of questions" but also being "very enthusiastic" about the idea of a reunion. Variety adds that star Lea Michele recently told E! News she'd be happy to return, saying, "I love 'Glee.' I will always love 'Glee.' I love Ryan Murphy. I will follow Ryan wherever he goes."
Murphy cautioned that the project is still in early stages. "Nobody's read it, so I don't know, we'll see," he said. He told ET he vowed to write a couple of scripts to gauge reactions, especially from the cast.
TheWrap notes Murphy had previously hinted at a reboot last July, citing the show's resurgence among younger viewers on streaming platforms. He told People at the time that his nostalgia for the show made him think "maybe people would like to see a new incarnation."
No further details about the reboot's plot or a potential release were provided.
